Turkey's electricity use has hit a record high with the country consuming 807 million kilowatt-hours in a day, according to Turkey's energy ministry.
Energy Minister Taner Yildiz told the Anadolu Agency on Friday that Turkey's previous highest daily consumption was 799 million kwh in 2012, with the new high being reached on Thursday.
Yildiz said the increasing use of air conditioning, hot weather, irrigation and industrial production had all risen in Turkey this year.
"The highest electricity consumption recorded was in the Adapazarı-Bursa region (a south western area of Turkey), the southeastern Anatolia region, Aegean region and the Thrace region of the country," said Yildiz.
Electricity usage will continue to increase and Turkey will witness new records, he said.
Yildiz said the Energy Ministry would meet energy demands in the country but added: "Our citizens should avoid wastage and move towards saving energy."
As a developing country, Turkey's electricity consumption has been rising annually.
The government is seeking to increase the country's installed electricity capacity to 100,000 megawatts and is aiming for a gross annual consumption of 450 billion kwh by 2023.
