Turkey’s state-run television channel TRT launched Monday a test broadcast of its English news service, TRT World.
TRT held a ceremony in Istanbul, where it presented the new channel.
Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister Yalcin Akdogan, TRT General Director Senol Goka, Deputy Director Ibrahim Eren and representatives from Turkey’s media organizations attended the ceremony.
“TRT World will be a channel that transmits Turkey’s messages to the whole world,” Deputy PM Akdogan, who spoke at the ceremony, said.
Akdogan also said that the channel would make an important contribution to showing the humanitarian perspective of news in its broadcasts.
TRT General Director Goka thanked Akdogan for his support and everyone involved for their efforts in launching the channel.
“We will become forerunners of a positive change in the world,” said TRT Deputy Director Ibrahim Eren.
Eren stated that TRT World would offer Turkey’s view and interpretation on current issues.
Currently, TRT has 15 television channels, including in Arabic, Kurdish and TRT Avaz, which mainly broadcasts to Turkic republics in former Soviet territory.
