ANKARA
Chairman of the Turkish-Turkish Cypriot Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group and a Justice and Development (AK) Party deputy from Malatya, Omer Faruk Oz, on Wednesday said that the relations between Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) continued successfully with no disruption.
Members of the Turkish-Turkish Cypriot Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group came together with the TRNC Ambassador in Ankara, Mustafa Lakadamyali, over lunch on Wednesday.
Speaking at the lunch, Oz stressed that it was impossible to separate the TRNC from Turkey.
The TRNC's relations with Turkey continued for long years with no disruption. Turkey's assistance to the TRNC continues under various projects, in the past 3-4 years, the TRNC made significant progress in infrastructure, transportation and tourism, Oz indicated.
The TRNC's biggest problem with potable water. Based on a protocol signed between two countries, Turkey will provide the TRNC with potable water via under water pipeline by the end of 2013, Oz stressed.
We are absolutely inseparable from each other. We can not stay pleased with Turkey's development alone. We will make efforts so that the TRNC benefits from the development of Turkey in the future as we did in the past, Oz noted.
Ambassador Lakadamyali, in his part, said that relations between the parliaments of Turkey and the TRNC were excellent and at the highest level.
We want our relations to be carried further by tangible projects, Lakadamyali stated.
Turkey and the TRNC are an inseparable entity. We will continue to work in harmony, Lakadamyali noted.
The struggle in Cyprus took place in cooperation with Turkey. Our struggle went through various stages. After 1974, we found ourselves in a geography full of peace, tranquility and security. Our struggle changes its shape. We now make efforts for a political agreement in Cyprus. We could not reach an agreement due to the uncompromising attitude of the Greek Cypriots to date. The Turkish Cypriots have been the victim of a lack of agreement in Cyprus. We will continue to work so that unfair isolations on the TRNC get lifted, Lakadamyali also said.
