ANKARA
Turkey's Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz said on Tuesday that the Turkish Petroleum Refineries Company (TUPRAS) made an agreement with Libya on purchase of 1 million tonnes of crude oil.
Yildiz said that TUPRAS's agreement with Libya came after the company recently decided to reduce the amount of Iranian crude oil it bought by 20 percent.
Answering a question on sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran, Yildiz said that such sanctions were not legally binding for Turkey.
Nevertheless, Yildiz stressed that the United States was a strategic partner of Turkey and Turkey's priority was to purchase energy from cheaper sources.
TUPRAS is presently holding talks with Saudi Arabia for a long term supply of crude oil, Yildiz also said.
