ANKARA
Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Levent Gumrukcu has said that Turkey, alone, spent 600 million USD to help Syrian people so far.
This shows the gravity of situation, if we consider the amount of international assistance, which is only 90 million USD, for Syrians staying in Turkey, added Gumrukcu.
Many countries committed to help Syrian refugees, who took shelter in neighboring countries, during an international meeting in Kuwait last month, however, those commitments were not kept, he added.
Noting that UN was also closely following the situation, Gumrukcu said that efforts were underway in order to deliver the assistance to Syrians who were in need.
Gumrukcu said that Antonio Guterres, the United Nations high commissioner for refugees, would visit Turkey probably on March 14 and 15.
