Turkey: Security forces nab explosives belonging to PKK

HAKKARI, Turkey

Security forces in southeastern Turkey seized explosives and ammunition on Monday belonging to the PKK/YPG terror organization.

According to the local authorities in Hakkari province, the forces located and launched an operation on a hideout of the terror group.

Searching the area, the local gendarmerie forces seized at least five handmade explosives totaling 8.5 kilograms (18 pounds), nine detonators, four rocket launchers, cables and other explosive materials they found buried underground.

The explosives were destroyed at the scene.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants. The YPG is the PKK's Syrian offshoot.
