U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel has held talks with Turkish officials in Ankara as U.S President Barack Obama prepares to announce his plan for an offensive against Islamic State militants.
Hagel met Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Monday in the Turkish capital after meeting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Defense cooperation between Turkey and the U.S. was discussed in Hagel's meeting with Davutoglu, as well as latest developments in Syria, Libya, Ukraine, and Iraq.
Erdogan's and Davutoglu’s meetings with Hagel, which lasted just over one hour, were closed to the media.
Hagel also visited Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of the founder of the Turkish Republic - Mustafa Kemal Ataturk - and signed the visitor's book.
