ANKARA
ANKARA (AA) - May 28, 2012 - A prosecutor in Turkey requested fresh arrest orders from a court in capital Ankara for four retired generals in a probe over what has come to be dubbed as "post-modern coup," a military campaign that eventually forced an elected government in the country to resign in 1997.
Retired generals Teoman Koman, Ilhan Kilic, Hikmet Koksal and Ahmet Corekci were referred to a criminal court for arrest.
Earlier today six other retired generals were sent to the court for arrest.
"The post-modern coup of the February 28 process" refers to a military intervention that forced late ex-prime minister Necmettin Erbakan to resign in June 1997 after serving only a year in office.
The process took its name from the February 28, 1997 meeting of the National Security Council
