Turkey has welcomed the formation of a new government in Iraq on Tuesday.

According to Turkey's Foreign Ministry, both Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu congratulated their Iraqi counterparts on the phone.

"We wish the new government of Iraq to embrace Iraqi people (...) and bring a policy to overcome the difficulties that the country faced," said a written statement by the ministry on Tuesday.

The ministry also reiterated its support to all Iraqi people and urged all political members in the country to make the most of this new opportunity.

On Monday, Iraq's new government, led by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, was officially formed after receiving a vote of confidence by parliament.

The new government, which includes Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds, was approved by 177 representatives out of 280.

On August 11, President Fuad Masum named Haider al-Abadi prime minister, ending former PM Nouri al-Maliki's eight-year rule.
