Turkey: Police seize 135 kilograms of marijuana

BATMAN, Turkey

Turkish security forces confiscated over 100 kilograms of marijuana in the country's southeast on Thursday.

Anti-narcotic police teams in Batman province conducted an operation against traffickers of the contraband drug, a financial pillar of the YPG/PKK terrorist organization.

After receiving an anonymous report, security forces stopped a car outside the city and seized 135 kg (298 pounds) of marijuana, arresting the driver.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people, including women, children and infants. The YPG is its Syrian offshoot.

Interpol reports estimate that up to 80% of the illicit drug markets in Europe are supplied by the YPG/PKK-controlled trafficking network.

The European Police Office (EUROPOL) reported that the narco business generated an annual income between $1.5 billion to $3 billion for the YPG/PKK terror group.
