ANKARA
A soldier was killed in an attack targeting a military base in the southeastern Sirnak province, the Turkish military said Tuesday.
According to the Turkish General Staff’s statement on its official website, a group of "terrorists" attacked the sixth Motorized Infantry Brigade's base in Akdizgin with long-barreled weapons.
A private, who was heavily injured in the attack, died later at the hospital, said the statement.
A total of six Turkish security forces died in attacks staged in Sirnak province and in Istanbul Monday.
An attack on a police station in Istanbul early Monday left one police officer dead and wounded at least 11 people, including four other police officers.
In Sirnak, four policemen were killed and another officer was injured in a roadside bomb attack. Another soldier was killed in an attack allegedly carried out by Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants on a military helicopter in Beytussebap district.
PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S., EU and Turkey.
