Turkey, Georgia to open joint border gate

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey and Georgia will open a joint border gate, first shared border crossing implementation, in the first quarter of 2014, Undersecretary of the Customs and Trade Ministry Ziya Altunyaldiz told AA. 

Sarp border crossing between Turkey and Georgia, Turkey's gateway to the Caucasus and the Central Asia, will be jointly used.

Turkey is one of the biggest foreign trade partners of Georgia. Turkey ranks first among foreign trade partners of Georgia by accounting for 18% of volume of imports, and ranks fifth for the volume of exports with a weight of 6%. 

Turkish contractors have carried out 159 projects in Georgia worth $2.7 billion so far. 

In the first nine months of 2013, about one million vehicles and six million passengers crossed the Sarp border gate.
