Turkey on Monday extended its condolences to Oman, where a tropical cyclone left at least 11 people dead.

“It has been learned with sadness that Cyclone Shaheen, which affected the Gulf of Oman ... has caused loss of life and property damage in Oman,” a Foreign Ministry statement said.

“We wish Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives and extend our condolences to their families, as well as to the people and the Sultanate of Oman and wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” said a Foreign Ministry statement.

The cyclone struck Oman on Sunday with heavy rains that caused floods in the northern part of the country, prompting evacuations and delaying flights to and from the capital Muscat, according to local sources.
