KAYSERI, Turkey
The death toll from a bus crash early Thursday morning has risen to 21 after a child died in a hospital after being wounded when a bus carrying up to 50 passengers veered off the road in the town of Pinarbasi near the city of Kayseri in central Turkey.
The majority of the bodies were removed from under the overturned bus.
Expressing worries that the death toll may rise, provincial Health Director Dr. Ahmet Oksuzkaya said that many ambulances from Pinarbasi town and Kayseri city center were dispatched to the accident scene.
A mother, Selcan Aydın wounded in the crash, said, "We were sleeping, my baby was in my lap. But I don't know where my baby is now. When I woke up, I was under the bus."
Her husband, Asım Aydın added, "I searched for my children after the accident. I could not find either of them. There were dead people around me."
There is no information about how the accident occurred as of yet.
Kayseri Governor Orhan Duzgun told AA, "We feel deep sorrow due to the accident. May the deceased rest in peace."
