ANKARA (AA) - Turkey became an observer state for the Pacific Alliance, Turkish Foreign Ministry said Monday. Turkey became an observer state for the Pacific Alliance formed for the economic and commercial integration of Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, formally established on June 6, 2012, Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement released. "The Pacific Alliance, an economic bloc allowing free movement of goods, services, capital and persons, has a total population of over 200 million inhabitants with a GDP of two trillion dollars and foreign trade volume of one trillion dollars. The Pacific Alliance plans to open up a commercial office in Istanbul. The "observer state" status of Turkey is expected to strengthen our political dialogue with the region and will mainly contribute towards cooperation in commerce and bilateral investments followed by development, science, tourism and culture," the statement said. englishnews@aa.com.tr
