SANLIURFA, Turkey
At least three suspects have been detained in Sanliurfa province on suspicion of being involved in the murders of two police officers, official sources said Thursday.
The suspects, all males, were detained in the province’s Ceylanpinar district. Documents found at the suspects' homes were sent to the police department for further investigation.
The suspects would be investigated for the murders of two police officers who were found shot dead inside their homes in Sanliurfa Wednesday, just two days after a suicide bomber killed 32 people in Suruc, official sources added.
The slain officers worked in the anti-terror and riot police sections of the local force.
The outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) had claimed the attack on the policemen, which it said was carried out to avenge the Suruc bombing. The Suruc attack is believed to be a terrorist act of Daesh.
The PKK is listed by Turkey, the U.S. and EU as a terrorist organization.
