TUNIS
Tunisian National Constituent Assembly (NCA) Speaker Mustapha Ben Jafar met Thursday with Turkish Parliamentary Speaker Cemil Cicek in Tunisian capital Tunis.
During the meeting, Cicek hailed Tunisia's ability to end its political crisis by endorsing a new constitution, reaching consensus on an interim government and forming an electoral commission.
Cicek told Anadolu Agency following the meeting that Tunisia had already managed to overcome its political hardships, stressing that the North African country was now on the right track.
He added that, although Tunisia was geographically far from Turkey, the North African country had always been of interest to Turkey.
Cicek went on to say Turkey would continue to support post-revolution Tunisia, as it did during the revolution that ousted longstanding president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in 2011.
Cicek arrived in Tunisia on Thursday to take part in official celebrations on Friday to mark the endorsement of the country's new constitution.
During Cicek's two-day visit, he is expected to meet with several Tunisian officials, including interim president Moncef Marzouki.
