ANKARA
Tatarstan's President Rustam Minnikhanov and Turkish President Abdullah Gul met in Cankaya Presidential residence in Ankara on Wednesday.
Following the meeting, Gul will host a luncheon in the honor of the visiting president.
This is the first formal visit from Tatarstan to Turkey on presidential level.
Turkish President Gul visited Tatarstan in 2009, and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in 2011.
On Thursday, Minnikhanov will attend Turkey-Tatarstan Commerce and Investment Forum, and inaugurate the statue of Tatar poet Abdullah Tukay in Istanbul together with Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topbas.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul hosted a luncheon in honor of Tatarstan's President Rustam Minnikhanov
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu also attended the luncheon at the Cankaya Presidential Residence.
Earlier Davutoglu said nothing could stop Turkey from expanding its cultural and economic ties with the Russian Federation and Tatarstan.
