SANLIURFA
Thousands of Syrian refugees in Turkey want to take Turkish as a foreign language at school when they return to their country.
The social needs as well as the humanitarian needs of 160,000 Syrian refugees are met in Turkey.
Important work is carried out in the field of education in Akcakale district of Sanliurfa where the highest number of refugees are staying.
Manager of Suleyman Shah resting area Halil Tekyildiz stated that they have provided education to 5,000 Syrian students thanks to 200 Syrian and 27 Turkish teachers.
Tekyildiz said, "At first we took some precautions to draw the students away from the effects of war. Then we observed that students attended school regularly and willingly. The thing that influenced us the most was their interest and attempt to learn Turkish. They said they wanted to take Turkish as a foreign language at school when they return to their country."
He added, "Our hospitality and our government's helping hand played a major role in students to learn Turkish. We are proud of the situation and thank all those contributed."
