ANKARA (AA) - Turkish police department prepared a bill to make amendments in the law regarding firearms, knives and other arms.
The draft, prepared with the instruction of Turkish Interior Minister Muammer Guler, will be presented to the parliemant following receiving the opinion of related institutions.
If the bill gets adopted, a health certificate and criminal record wouldn't be sufficient to get a guns license. Individuals would have to go through a training program that would last 7 to 10 days under the surveillance of psychologists and sociologists and would also go through various psychological tests. Unless the experts approve, gun license wouldn't be given to the applicant.
Serious sanctions will also be implemented to those carrying guns under influence of drugs or alcohol as part of the bill. Guns will be confiscated if the person is carrying them under the effect of drugs or alcohol and the gun license can be cancelled if the law is breached again.
The age for having a hunting rifle will also be increased from 18 to 21 according to the draft.
At the moment people aged 18 can get a hunting rifle and people aged 21 can get a pistol license.
