The son of a Turkish opposition party member was remanded in custody in southern Hatay province Wednesday on charges of being a Daesh member, according to an unnamed police source.
Yusuf Demirtas, son of Huseyin Demirtas, who is a district co-chair of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in eastern Elazig province, was detained during a security check in Iskenderun, the source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
Demirtas was on a coach headed for Istanbul, when he was arrested following an identity check, and arraigned.
A local court in Iskenderun later remanded him in custody over charges of being a member of the terrorist organization.
Demirtas was reportedly on a wanted list of people which may be used by Daesh in acts of terrorism.
