Turkey's Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communication Binali Yildirim on Tuesday said, Samsun-Kavkaz rail-ferry line will not only serve between Turkey and Russia but also between Balkans and Far East.
The line was opened with a ceremony in northern Turkish province of Samsun.
Yildirim said, "This is not only a means of transport between Turkey and the Russian Federation. It is an important route passing from the Anatolian land and Balkans meeting the Middle East and Far East" referring to the Samsun-Kavkaz rail ferry line on Russia's Black Sea coast.
Opening ceremony was attended by Turkish Transport Minister Binali Yildirim and his Russian counterpart Maksim Y. Sokolov.
Yildirim stated that they opened the rail ferry line which would connect two friendly countries and said, "Transport is an indispensable need for improving friendships between countries, and for trade to develop. It is our aim from now on to work on efficient transportation projects, reducing bureaucracies at the borders and reducing time spent during travelling. We will not only contribute to the development of trade by simplifying procedures at border gates, but we will also further develop relations between countries."
Stating that he was very pleased to be present in Turkey and at the ceremony, Sokolov said, "This line is an indication of our well developed relations with Turkey."
