Turkish dailies covered on Friday the possibility of holding a plebisicite on Istanbul's Taksim Gezi Park, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's meeting with Turkish celebrities about the park, White House's statements on the use of chemical by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, European Parliament's resolution on Turkey and end of education year. Daily SABAH covered Erdogan's meeting with celebrities and headlined "Whatever Istanbul's residents say then we will do it" citing Erdogan "Municipalities may hold a plebiscite according to the law. Famed Turkish actress Hulya Avsar said, "Prime Minister Erdogan is trying to understand the youth in the park" reported daily SABAH adding Erdogan received eight other celebrities last night and the meeting continued until late hours.
Daily HURRIYET headlined "Educated youth" saying Research and Consultancy (KONDA) made a survey with 4411 people in the park and the results show that 43 percent of the protesters have a bachelor's degree. 50.8 percent of them are women and 49.2 percent are men. After Istanbul Governor Huseyin Avni Mutlu's statement calling on parents of the protesters to take them home, about 150 mothers arrived in the park to support the protests with their children, daily HURRIYET said.
Daliy HABER TURK headlined "Either barracks or plebiscite" citing Erdogan "You will either say 'yes' to hold a plebiscite or accept the project to build the barracks". It also covered that education year ends and 17 million students will go on summer holiday.
Daily MILLIYET headlined "Immediate objection to stern resolution" saying Turkish government did not recognize the Europeran Parliament's resolution on Turkey and it added quoting Prime Minister Erdogan as saying "I do not recognize the resolution and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying "null and void". Daily MILLIYET also said Erdogan called on the youth to leave the park citing him "This is my last call. Leave the park and let us face with the illegal organizations and deal with them.
Daily ZAMAN covered the use of chemical weapons by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad saying Obama administration confirmed that Assad regime used chemical weapons, including sarin gas against the Syrian opposition in the civil war which has been continuing for more than two years. Daily AKSAM also covered the use of chemical weapons in Syria and said "tension is escalating in the Middle East" adding the USA will inrease the amount of help to the Syrian dissidents.
