ANKARA
Eleven police officers are being questioned Tuesday in relation to the wiretapping of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's office.
An early morning search of the homes and offices of twelve suspects in the cities of Ankara, Istanbul, Diyarbakir, Yozgat and Karabuk was conducted.
Erdogan's former chief bodyguard Mehmet Yuksel was also taken under custody.
Wiretapping scandals have occasionally made headlines in Turkey since Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced in late 2012 that a "bug" had been found in his office.
The bugging devices, the serial numbers of which have been already erased, were sent to the prosecutor in May and taken in by the court’s evidence unit.
