One policeman and five soldiers have been martyred during an anti-terror operation in southeastern Turkey, security sources said on Saturday.
According to security sources speaking on condition of anonymity, the policeman and five soldiers were martyred in Mardin province's Nusaybin district where military operations have been ongoing since March 14.
Meanwhile, 16 PKK terrorists, including two senior figures, were killed during an anti-terror operation in Hakkari's Yuksekova district.
The source said that the two senior figures were Emel Guclu – code-named ‘Zilan’ – and Necmettin Duman who was found dead with a bomb.
Tension is high in southeastern Turkey since the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and the EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.
Since then, over 350 members of the security forces have been martyred and thousands of PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
