Ankara (AA) - Turkish Prime Minister and ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan met a group of representatives from Gezi Park protests in his party's headquarters in the Turkish capital of Ankara.

Two actors, Hasan Kacan and Necati Sasmaz, spoke to press members following the meeting.

A serious effort has been initiated with this meeting and several proposals were made regarding the demonstrations, Kacan said, calling on the protesters to respond in kind.

"Now that mutual steps are taken, I expect our brothers at Gezi Park to reciprocate," he said.

Kacan expressed worry at people's safety in the park, saying he was eager to achieve a tangible result out of this initiative.

"Young protesters' parents are worried, so am I. They do support their kids who are out there, but they do so with worry," he said. "I am, with all sincerity, anxious for all this to end peacefully, with a solution that also satisfies the demands of the protesters."

Necati Sasmaz said the recent events saddened him as much as anyone. He thinks Turkey does not deserve what happened.

"I believe the country has been touched by the evil eye. Let us pray for it to go away," he said. "None of us wants Turkey to get into a difficult situation. We're all in this together; if the ship goes down, we'd all drown."

Sasmaz urged sociologists to analyze the state of affairs and the influence of the events in society in a 'fast but calm manner,' and with utmost impartiality, which he says is the first and only prerequisite.

"We should be able to follow them just as we follow a cat's eye in darkness," he said.
