ERBIL, Iraq
Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani of the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government received a delegation from Turkey's pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party on Monday.
During the meeting, Barzani reiterated his support for Turkey's bid to bring the conflict with the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party to an end.
"We have supported peace and the (solution) process since the beginning and we are ready to do our part," he said.
The meeting with the delegation included HDP lawmakers Leyla Zana and Sirri Sureyya Onder.
Zana conveyed a recent message by jailed PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan, in which he called on the group to convene a congress to end the 40-year armed conflict against Turkey.
Zana also said Ocalan was closely monitoring and appreciating the efforts and support of the Iraqi Kurdish PM.
"Ocalan welcomes Barzani's attempts for peace and the solution process," Zana said.
The Turkish government launched the "solution process" in 2013 to end a conflict that has claimed 40,000 lives. The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU.
The delegation is expected to deliver the message to the Kurdistan Community Union (KCK), an umbrella organization for the PKK after meeting with Iraqi Kurdish President Massoud Barzani during their visit.
