PARIS
Turkey's Health Minister Recep Akdag said on Tuesday that their hearts were beating for Izmir.
Minister Akdag's remarks came in Paris where he and a Turkish delegation have arrived to make a presentation at the congress of the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE) to promote the western province of Izmir's chances to host the EXPO 2020.
Speaking to the Anadolu Agency (AA), Akdag said that Izmir decided to make its theme for the EXPO "health".
Today, health is the topic in Paris. EXPO's main topic is health. As the Ministry of Health, I support this project strongly. Our Prime Minister wanted me to contribute to Izmir's candidacy to host the EXPO, Akdag stressed.
Izmir is the most appropriate city for health. We will talk about the importance of health today. We will also talk about why all countries need to gather together for a healthy future, Akdag underlined.
Our hearts are beating for Izmir. We will tell the officials that Turkey would be the best choice to host the EXPO as a country which has been successful in transformation in the health sector. We will tell the officials to unite with us so we can all reach health, Akdag also said.
