JEDDAH

Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was decorated with "Al-Idrisi Award", one of the most important awards of the Mediterranean region.

The award is presented to people who make studies on topics among religions and cultures in northern and southern coasts of the Mediterranean.
Ihsanoglu received his award at a ceremony that took place in Palermo, Italy for his remarkable studies in cultural and political areas which strengthened the dialogue between Islamic and the Western worlds.
Al-Idrisi lived in Morocco, Andalusia and Sicily in the 12th century. He was one of the greatest Muslim Arab geographers. He produced maps of Mediterranean and the world.
