The leader of Catholic community Pope Francis on Friday met with Secretary General of Organization of Islamic Conference Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu in Vatican City.
Ihsanoglu, defining the meeting with the Pope as a first-ever event in the history of the organization, later met with Turkish press members at Turkey's embassy in Vatican.
Noting the meeting with the Pope was sincere and fruitful, Ihsanoglu said the Pope had given affirmative messages to the Islamic world since he took office.
"He has a very friendly attitude in these messages. He wanted to develop relations with Islamic world and emphasized on importance of dialogue."
Ihsanoglu said they focused on importance of developing relations between the Vatican and the OIC.
