United Nations (UN) secretary general's special adviser on Cyprus said on Wednesday that possibility of holding a multilateral Cyprus conference was still on table.
Alexander Downer had separate meetings with President Dervis Eroglu of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias and discussed what kind of method would be pursued to progress in the ongoing negotiation process.
Holding a multilateral conference on Cyprus in summer was still on UN's table and it was a part of the process and agenda, Downer told reporters in Lefkosa, TRNC.
Downer said that he would continue to exchange views on methods to be pursued in coming days, and he had made some progress but did not elaborate.
The Greek Cypriot administration opposes to a multi-national conference, claiming that they have not made "sufficient progress" in ongoing negotiations.
Eroglu and Christofias have been holding talks since 2008.
The UN-brokered talks was aimed to set up a federal government with a single international personality in a bi-zonal, bi-communal country, with Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot constituent states of equal status.
Talks between Cypriot parties are focusing on "property" topic. The parties have very different stances about the topic.
On April 27, Alexander Downer said he planned to carry out "a two-week shuttle diplomacy" between Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders to see if they could agree on methods for a fresh round of settlement negotiations to reunify their island.
