ANKARA
Chairman of Turkey's Religious Affairs Department Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gormez on Tuesday met with Head of Saudi Arabia's Religious Affairs Saleh Bin Abdul Aziz in Ankara.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Abdul Aziz following a tete-a-tete meeting in Ankara, Dr. Gormez said that "Islamic knowledge produced by the Islam world was getting far from enlightening the path of Muslims worldwide".
"In the past decade, attacks on Islam's holy values took place and such attacks turned into cultural torture in the Islam world," Dr. Gormez noted.
"Reactions of the Muslims, far from all kinds of wisdom and reason, feeded Islamophobia," Dr. Gormez stated.
"We need to work on such attacks and define them as ones that have no relation to the freedom of expression," Dr. Gormez said.
Touching on Muslim minorities in different corners of the world, Dr. Gormez underlined that there had to be joint projects to help Muslim minorities throughout the world.
Abdul Aziz, in his part, said that they discussed on Tuesday to develop ideas for the present period and future.
"We want to spread Islam in the future based on wisdom and reason," Abdul Aziz stated.
