The Istanbul mayor said on Friday that the Metropolitan Municipality would donate 15 more buses to its sister city of Sarajevo in order to support public transportation in the city.

According to a written statement by the municipality released on Friday, Mevlut Uysal said: “In order to contribute to public transportation in Sarajevo, we presented 45 modernized buses to Sarajevo.”

“In addition, we will send 15 more buses to Sarajevo as soon as possible and this will increase the number of buses that we’ve donated to 60,” he said.

Uysal’s remarks came as he hosted Salko Bukvarevic, Bosnian Minister for Issues of Veterans and Disabled Veterans of the Defensive-Liberation War in Istanbul, according to the statement.

Bukvarevic thanked Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Istanbul municipality and the Turkish people for the “brotherhood” that they showed to Bosnia.

Uysal said: “Our municipality is ready to cooperate in every field with Bosnia and our sister city Sarajevo [...].”

Last September, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality sent over 5,000 water meters to Sarajevo as well as water pumps, according to the Istanbul mayor.
