Governor Vasip Sahin confirms one person is in critical condition after explosion in military zone
ISTANBUL
Istanbul’s governor has confirmed that eight people were hurt when an explosion hit a military vehicle in the city on Thursday.
Governor Vasip Sahin told Anadolu Agency that five army personnel and three civilians were injured in the blast, which happened in a military zone in the Sancaktepe area of the city’s Asian side.
Sahin said one woman was in critical condition.
The Anatolia Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said it has launched an investigation on the explosion.
According to initial reports, a parked car was detonated by remote control as the military vehicle was passing by.
In a statement, the Turkish General Staff strongly condemned the attack.
