ISTANBUL
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said international community took an important step to end a historic injustice by recognizing the Palestinian state at the United Nations (UN).
Delivering the opening remarks at the Fifth Meeting of the Turkish-Arab Cooperation Forum at the level of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Istanbul, Ahmet Davutoglu stated that the international community's responsibility vis-a-vis Palestine has not ended yet.
"The day when Palestine gets into the UN as a member, the international community's debt to the Palestinians arising from conscience and legal as well as political responsibilities will end," Davutoglu stressed.
"It is our great wish to see the Palestinian flag at the UN as a full member," Davutoglu noted.
"Until the Palestinian flag is hoisted at the UN, Turkey's support to Palestine would continue," Davutoglu stated.
High time to establish permanent peace in our region
Davutoglu also underlined it was high time to establish permanent peace in the region.
Davutoglu stressed preliminary condition for a permanent peace in the region was to help the Palestinians reach their rights and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
"The international community should no longer permit the Israeli government to risk peace, security and stability in the region with its attitude which does not recognize laws and behaviour that is irresponsible as well as uncompromising," Davutoglu noted.
"It is high time to give strong messages against Israel's policies that destroy the peace process," Davutoglu also said.
