ANKARA (AA) - The seven regional groups of the Wise Men Committee submitted Wednesday their final reports to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which were prepared after two and a half months of efforts in all regions of Turkey.
Reflecting the public opinion within the all seven regions on peace process, the final reports draw attention to the increasing support for the peace process, the expectation for a civil constitution, and the importance of disarmed environment and democratic methods in the peace and solution process regarding the decades-long Kurdish issue in Turkey, as well as the fears of an interruption in the peace process.
The final reports cover the suggestions of the committee members for the solution of the Kurdish issue and healthy handling of the peace process in the face of the demands, wishes, dreams and hopes along with concerns and fears of the Turkish people and institutions.
- Report of the Southeastern Anatolia Region Group -
The 38-page report prepared by the Wise Men's Southeastern Anatolia Group points out that the peace process generated excitement within the society thanks to the democratic and peaceful means adopted by Turkish government to settle the deep rooted problem.
Despite the concerns of some sects, vast majority of the Turkish community is far more hopeful about the process than ever before, with the belief that a peaceful solution to Kurdish issue will directly impact the democratic level and economic performance of Turkey.
- Report of the Aegean Region Group -
Wise Men Committee's Aegean Region Group also concluded in their report that there is an increasing support to the solution process, indicating a "disarmed environment" as the first aim on the path towards the main goal and saying "The process is actually the democratization of Turkey."
Stressing the finding that the majority opposes the process upon the prejudice over a possible political prioritization of the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party, the report stated that the acts, not the words of the government will determine the course of the process.
- Report of the Eastern Anatolia Region Group -
The final report submitted by the Eastern Anatolia Region Group infers that almost all the society, overwhelmingly in support of the solution process, agree on the belief that the said problem cannot be solved via military and armed means, emphasizing that the protests increased the resolution and number of the supporters of the solution process.
The report also underlines the finding that there is a resentment, and weakness in terms of the sense of belonging towards the state and institutions.
Regarding the new constitution, the report reasoned that "A policy extending the limits of the policy of a political party is required for meeting the need of a civil and new constitution. The process of drafting a new constitution should be proceeded based on the public opinion, without deviating from the target of a new and civil constitution."
