Ankara (AA) - Turkish Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek on Saturday said that everyone should "act with common sense" following the incidents at Istanbul's Taksim Gezi Park.
Speaking to the Anadolu Agency (AA), Cemil Cicek said that "at times like this, everyone has a great responsibility".
"We must evaluate what happened at Taksim Gezi Park with common sense and calmness. Painful experiences from the past must be a lesson for all of us. We know from the past that certain incidents that began with good will turned into very painful ones later on," Cicek stressed.
"We know from experiences that certain illegal groups can abuse incidents and result in division of groups. We must all be aware that we should act with more responsibility and common sense while making statements and performing certain acts," Cicek also said.
Cicek's remarks came in response to the Taksim sit-in protest in which police intervened on Friday by using tear gas and water cannon against the protestors. Those staging the sit-in protested the demolition of Gezi Park and uprooting of the trees.
