Turkish Minister of Environment and Urbanization Erdogan Bayraktar on Monday represented Turkey at the Sixth World Urban Forum in Naples, Italy.
Speaking at a session of ministers at the forum, Bayraktar stressed that "as long as the disadvantaged people did not have a place to stay, the world would not be able to reach tranquility".
"When we look at the world today, 35 percent of people in Africa live in cities. In Asia, 40 percent of the total population lives in cities. Half of the world's seven billion people live in cities. Both the population and flow into cities will increase. What we have to be careful about is that, as long as the poor do not reach a comfortable life and a place to live in, the world would not be able to reach tranquility".
"We need to give hand in hand so the nations of the world reach prosperity. We need to help each other. We need to assist those poor people who do not have the money to have a residence. Otherwise, illegal migration from poor cities and poor countries to rich ones will continue," Bayraktar also said.
