At least eight people were drowned when a minibus carrying workers to work skidded into a pond near Alanya town of Antalya, south of Turkey Saturday morning.
Gendarmerie told the AA that the service shuttle fell into the 10-meter-deep pond, killing eight and injuring five.
Rescue workers were immediately sent to the scene and the depth of water was reduced to 1.5 meters as quickly as possible by opening the valves of the pond. Despite the efforts, only five of the workers were saved and others succumbed to water as they were trapped within the vehicle.
An investigation has been launched to find out the cause of the accident.
