Turkish artist Tulay Gurses opened a painting exhibition in Rome, in which she combined Rumi's philosophy and colors.
Gurses said that Rumi's words “Human, you are the biggest secret” were the driving force for her to take interest in existential philosophy and start reading about Rumi.
Gurses said that she combined Rumi's words, existential philosophy and her will to paint by using colors.
“The universe is an opening from colorlessness to color,” words of Rumi, quoted by Gurses, are said to be one of the reasons she started painting for this exhibition, which is her first exhibition abroad.
The painting exhibition, contributed by the Vatican Embassy, was opened at the Culture and Tourism Attache's Office of Turkey's Rome Embassy.
Jalal ad-Din Muhammed Rumi, also known only as Rumi, lived between 1207 and 1273 in today's Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Anatolia. He was a Sufi mystic who is known best by his words “Come, come, whoever you are. Wanderer, worshipper, lover of leaving — it doesn't matter. Ours is not a caravan of despair. Come, even if you have broken your vow a hundred times, Come, come again, come.” His works have been translated and published in various languages all around the world.
