ANKARA
Two people have been hurt in explosions which damaged offices belonging to one of Turkey’s political parties.
Blasts on Monday occurred inside two provincial offices of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in southern Turkey, police said.
HDP buildings in Adana and Mersin were damaged.
Adana provincial governor Mustafa Buyuk told Anadolu Agency that two people were injured after a blast occurred in the chairman’s room of the HDP office in the Seyhan district of Adana.
He said that those injured were sent to hospital, and suggested the blast was deliberate.
“We are investigating the source of the blast and the type of explosive,” Buyuk added.
Separately, Mersin police chief Rahmi Bastug confirmed to Anadolu Agency that another blast hit HDP offices in Mersin.
He said that the explosion happened in the kitchen of the building and that there were no injuries.
These are the latest in a series of attacks on HDP buildings and members in recent months.
Gunmen attacked the HDP’s headquarters in Ankara in mid-April. Nobody was injured but bullet holes were visible on the building.
In November 2014, the Ankara Provincial HDP Assembly Member Ahmet Karatas was critically injured after a person stabbed him near the party’s central headquarters in Ankara.
The HDP is set to play an important role in the upcoming June 7 Turkish general election. For the first time it aims to pass the 10 percent election threshold and gain seats in parliament.
