ANKARA
African Media Initiative CEO Amadou Mahtar Ba paid a visit to The Anadolu Agency, meeting with AA Board Chairman and Director General Kemal Ozturk.
Speaking at the meeting at AA headquarters in the Turkish capital, Ankara, Ba said he was following the AA closely, adding his visit was aimed at boosting cooperation between the AA and the African media.
Ba extended an invitation to the Turkish government and The Anadolu Agency for a meeting of African Media Leaders Forum which is scheduled to be held in Senegal's capital, Dakar.
"You can meet the main players in the African media. Hopefully, some good cooperation can start there which will benefit Africa and Turkey," Ba said.
Ba said around the Dakar forum would bring together around 400 media bosses from major African media outlets including radios, TV networks and internet platforms.
Ozturk, on his part, said AA closely followed the African media with a special interest in the Swahili language, adding the AA was planning to run news in the African tongue too.
Ozturk said Turkey and the AA attached special importance to the African continent, adding that the AA would open offices in Central Africa in addition to those in North Africa.
The African Media Initiative (AMI) is a pan-Africa program that seeks to strengthen the continent's media sector through advocacy, investments, technology, and training in order to increase quality and ensure sustainability of the media.
