ANKARA
Anadolu Agency has described as "fabricated" allegations made by Turkish daily Taraf that police chiefs would be providing election results to the agency exclusively.
AA stated on Saturday that is was clear the Supreme Election Committee provided poll results, and not the police.
A story headlined "Demoralization plan at ballot box", published by Taraf on Saturday, claimed a deputy security director called all provincial police chiefs the day before, instructing them to give the results of Sunday's elections only to AA.
"Taraf headlined a baseless news story in which Anadolu Agency was mentioned," said AA in a statement.
Anadolu Agency has been working intensively to ensure subscribers receive the results of the Local Election on Sunday, and has completed a test-broadcast of its election service.
The agency also emphasized that the Supreme Election Committee was responsible for the conduct of the elections and the disclosure of the results.
Officials said it was hard to understand why some media organizations were seeking to distort the agency's efforts.
Anadolu Agency has launched a slander case against the daily over its story.
