ESKISEHIR, Turkey

At least 63 irregular migrants from Syria were held in Turkey’s central Eskisehir province, security sources said on Wednesday.

The Syrian nationals were caught when police forces stopped on suspicion four buses carrying them.

Four foreign nationals who organized their illegal travel were fined 33,127 Turkish liras (nearly $4,700).

The migrants were transferred to the provincial repatriation center.

Turkey has been a key transit point for asylum seekers who want to cross into Europe to start new lives, especially those fleeing war and persecution.

It hosts nearly 4 million refugees, including over 3.6 million Syrians, more than any other country in the world.
