Nearly 40 undocumented migrants held in Turkey
Iraqis, Iranians and Afghans are among those held in northwestern Kirklareli province
KIRKLARELI, Turkey
A total of 37 undocumented migrants have been held in northwestern Kirklareli province, a security source said Sunday.
Provincial gendarmerie units carried out an operation targeting undocumented migrants and arrested groups of people attempting to cross illegally into Europe through Kirklareli’s Demirkoy and Kofcaz districts at the Turkish-Bulgarian border, said a source requesting anonymity due to restrictions on talking to media.
They were sent to provincial migration authority.
Turkey has been the main route for refugees trying to cross into Europe, especially since the beginning of the civil war in Syria.
