An Air France Boeing 777 bound for Paris from Mauritius on Sunday morning made an emergency landing at Moi International Airport in Kenya’s second largest city Mombasa.
The plane made the emergency landing over a bomb scare, police on Sunday told Anadolu Agency.
“The pilots requested an emergency landing after a suspicious device was discovered in the lavatory, it was immediately suspected to be an explosive,” Kenya Police spokesman Charles Owino told Anadolu Agency on the phone.
“The news spread after somebody who was using the toilet came back and told other passengers that he had seen a suspicious device. All the passengers are safe and have been evacuated. Our bomb experts from the Navy and the CID [Criminal Investigation Department] are currently analyzing the device.”
The plane was carrying 473 people including 14 crew members, the plane is still currently at the airport in Mombasa.
