ANKARA
Serena Williams won the Wimbledon singles championship for the sixth time by beating Garbine Muguruza 2-0 in the final match in London Saturday.
This was Williams’ 21st grand slam win, while Muguruza had qualified for the Wimbledon final for the first time in her career.
The 33-year-old American Williams defeated the 21-year-old Spaniard Muguruza in two straight sets 6-4, 6-4 on the center court.
The win also gave a unique honor to Williams, who became the oldest Wimbledon champion.
Muguruza was warmly applauded by Williams and 15,000 people during the award ceremony after the match.
Meanwhile, aiming for his 17th Grand Slam title, Roger Federer hopes to beat the two-time Wimbledon champion, Novak Djokovic, Sunday to score his eighth Wimbledon title.
