MELBOURNE
Swiss tennis player Stanislas Wawrinka defeated world number one Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in Sunday's final of the Australian Open and won the first Grand Slam title of his career.
Wawrinka, 28, had never beaten the Spanish player in their previous 11 matches. With his win Sunday, Wawrinka will climb to number 3 in the men's singles table, the highest ranking of his career. Wawrinka wiill also pass his fellow citizen, 17-time-Grand Slam winner Roger Federer, in the rankings table for the first time.
