KAZAN, Russia

The 2025 PSB Russian Track and Field Championships began Thursday in the southwestern city of Kazan, bringing together the country’s top athletes for four days of high-level competition.

Organized by the Russian Athletic Federation, the tournament is taking place at Kazan’s historic Central Stadium, a venue that previously hosted the 2013 Universiade and the 2024 BRICS Games, organized by the bloc also including Brazil, India, China, and South Africa.

The four-day event features more than 200 athletes competing across 44 events, from sprints and hurdles to field disciplines and combined events.

Among the participants are world champions and Olympic medalists competing alongside juniors making their senior championship debuts in Kazan.

The opening day begins with men's decathlon events and early 100-meter preliminary races. The 100-meter finals are scheduled for the evening, followed by the official opening ceremony.

Boris Yaryshevsky, executive director of the All-Russian Athletics Federation, said: “The championship is not just a tournament, but a space for new names, national pride, sports continuity and increasing spectator interest in athletics.”

The event runs through Sunday and is seen by Russian sports officials as a benchmark for evaluating athletic form ahead of potential future reinstatement in international competitions.
