The Disciplinary Committee of Major League Soccer (MLS), the US' top-tier football league, on Wednesday fined Inter Miami's Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
Both South American football stars have been fined an undisclosed amount for violating the hands to the face/head/neck of an opponent during Inter Miami's 2-2 draw with New York City FC on Sunday.
Messi, an eight-time Ballon d'Or winner, approached a member of the opposition staff and placed his hand on the back of his neck.
Suarez was seen grabbing the back of New York City defender Birk Risa’s neck during an argument after the halftime whistle.
Former Barcelona teammates Messi and Suarez joined Inter Miami a year apart, in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
